COWBOYS & CROWS Patrick Gorman Jr. (Ireland, 1980)
If I were to describe my artwork I would say that its comic book inspired but that doesn’t really do the justice it deserves. I do have an obsession with all things comic book that started at a very young age. Reading about people who felt different and didn’t fit in with the world around them allowed me to become comfortable with my inner self and see that true courage comes from self-belief. This need for stories about Superheroes dealing with everyday life got me through my teenage years. The adventures kept me hooked each month but it was the artwork that I fell in love with. Becoming an Illustrator was my dream and now in my 30s it has become very much part of the driving force behind everything I do. Taking a blank page and filling it with life is an amazing gift. And like the comic book that increases in value over time my art has grown as I’ve matured. ‘Cowboys & Crows’ is a collection of pen and ink drawings that focus on the iconic image of the great wild-west hero. To me the image of the Cowboy transcends both heterosexual and homosexual fantasy. He invokes a feeling of strength, courage, fatherhood and adventure. Whether he’s gay or straight, old or young he is an archetypal man. This is my 1st exhibition with the GO Gallery. Opening: Sunday, 28th of july 2013, 4-7 pm. Closing: Sunday, 8th of September The exhibition is part of the annual PINK with PRIDE exhibitions at GO Gallery.
