Het werk van 6 kunstenaars is op de expositie te zien:

Mr. Trash (Keulen).
Eén van zijn schilderijen is de moderne versie van Rembrandt´s Nachtwacht, `The funky Nightwatch’.
Nederland, en Amsterdam in het bijzonder, is beroemd om zijn liberale denken.
In deze nieuwe versie van de Nachtwacht, laat de schilder een aantal van de originele figuren in juiste proporties en kleuren zien, maar heeft hij de schouten vervangen door de nieuwe, moderne “soldaten”, met flip flops, fietsend of zwaaiend met de regenboogvlag: “Make happiness, not war!”
Mr. Trash heeft ook nieuwe versies geschilderd van werken van Frans Hals en Jan Vermeer.

‘second’  (Keulen).
De kunstenaar heeft voor deze expositie o.a. een collectie gemaakt van de “Lost Heroes”: De Ruijter, Vondel, Frans Hals, Sweelinck en Espiniza, de mannen op de oude bankbiljetten. In zijn ogen zien ze eruit als de “Guilder Gang” een paar trieste mannen uit een vorige millennium.
Het sprookjes huwelijk van Alexander en Maxima wordt verbeeld in een schilderij waarin de sprookjesfiguren van Walt Disney, Mickey en Minnie Mouse de hoofdrol spelen.

EMESS (Berlijn).
Voor de expositie Inside – Outside, heeft EMESS 4 portretten gemaakt van beroemde Nederlandse kunstenaars: Vincent van Gogh, M.C.Escher, Piet Mondrian and Rembrandt van Rijn. De schilderijen zijn gemaakt met spuitbussen en sjablonen op canvas.
Bij de werken van EMESS krijg je het idee dat het koperprints of houtsneden zijn.
EMESS heeft de portretten van de Nederlandse kunstenaars gemaakt in een Duits expressionistische stijl.
Hij combineerde het expressionistische kleuren pallet met het ruwe effect van houtsneden (geïnspireerd door expressionist E.L. Kirchner) tot een stencil. (Technisch hoogstandje!!)

The London Police (Amsterdam ).
Het thema Amsterdam wordt sterk vertegenwoordigd in  deze collectie van het populaire streeet art duo. Architectuur speel in deze serie natuurlijk weer een grote rol.
Ze hebben het thema Inside – Outside geïntegreerd met hun eigen herkenbare stijl van Amsterdamse stereotypen als de muizen, de “lads” en de dames van lichte zeden…..

Olivier Philippe (Amsterdam).
De fotograaf print zijn werk direct op geborsteld aluminium, een vrij nieuw procedé.
“Date me” – Dit image roept een nostalgisch gevoel op, iets wat je kent als je in Amsterdam woont.
Zijn werk is tijdloos en ironisch als je naar de details kijkt. Sommigen hebben het in het echt gezien, maar anderen zullen zeker het gevoel krijgen als ze de afbeeldingen zien.

IVES.ONE (Amsterdam).
“Mijn stad, mijn visie”, is de titel van de serie van deze Amsterdamse street art kunstenaar.
Momentopnamen en beelden die hem hebben geïnspireerd heeft hij geschilderd op doek.
Een schilderij, genaamd “Gouwe Ouwe”, is geïnspireerd op zijn jeugd, een verleden waarin de jonge  schoffies nog over straat renden en er nog werd gehandeld met de gulden.
“Gesluierd, maar niet ongezien” is een moment opname van Koningin Beatrix, waarin ze gesluierd door een land met een andere cultuur en normen en waarden liep. Een deel van de Nederlandse maatschappij liet haar hypocriete kant zien door iets af te keuren wat tegelijkertijd wel door hen wordt verlangd op eigen bodem.
“Flipje Flipt”. Wie kent hem niet, het beeld van de fruitige jam? Het leek de kunstenaar een komisch icoon om terug te halen en in te zetten tegen de waanzin rond om het verbod op de Nederwiet.

Inside – Outside

This exhibition shows what a few foreign artists think about Holland and Amsterdam in particular. The Dutch Cheese maiden, Red light district, Maxima, Dutch haring, soft drugs, wooden shoes, canals, tulips, Beatrix, Gaypride, Dutch windmills, de BIG 5: Rembrandt van Rijn, Vincent van Gogh, Johannes Vermeer, Jan Steen, Frans Hals and other Dutch and Amsterdam stereotypes will be pictured in the artworks.

The 6 participating artists:

Mr. Trash (Cologne, Germany).

One of his paintings is the modern version of Rembrandt´s Nightwatch, it’s called: “the funky Nightwatch”.

As the Netherlands and especially Amsterdam is world famous for its liberal way of thinking, this new version shows the old tradition in using some of the original characters, proportions and the colors, but substitutes the soldiers with modern and liberal humans. That´s the reason why “soldiers” wear flip flops, drive by bike or swing the flag of the gay movement….just to say: “make happiness not war”.

The other paintings in his collection are modern version of famous paintings by Frans Hals and Johannes Vermeer.

‘second’  (Cologne, Germany).

He painted a series of “Lost Heroes”: De Ruijter, Vondel, Frans Hals, Sweelinck and Espiniza, the guys on the old Dutch guilder notes. These old boys on the banknotes look like a gang of sad guys from another millennium. In his mind, they are the lost heroes of the 21 century. “I try to paint these guys in my urban pop art look to improve their style and language for the current generation”.

EMESS (Berlin, Germany).

For the inside-outside show at go gallery EMESS prepared 4 portraits of well known Dutch artists like Vincent van Gogh, M.C. Escher, Piet Mondrian and Rembrandt with spray paint & stencil on canvas. Since he works with stencils as an inside and outside media in urban art for quite a while now, he always tries to give these works a look that is close to the style of copper-prints or woodcuts. In order to have a certain angle on the chosen Dutch artists from a “German” point of view he decided to orientate his work on German expressionism this time.

He combined the expressionistic color range with the rough looks of expressive woodcuts (e.g. Kirchner) and converted both into a stencil based work. (very technical procedure!)

The London Police (Amsterdam)

Strong Amsterdam themes run through this collection of work. Architecture is an obvious reference. We have married the inside/outside theme with our usual style of painting with particular Amsterdam stereo types such as mice, the ‘lads’ and ladies of the night.[nggallery id=16]

Olivier Philippe:

The photographer prints his work on brushed aluminum, a new procedure.

“Date me” – the image summons a sense of nostalgia, something unique about Amsterdam which you can associate to if you’re part of the city. It is timeless and the art is ironic when you look at it in detail.

Few will have seen it in its original state, many will feel the city just by peering into it.

IVES.ONE (Amsterdam).

“My city, my vision” is the name of  the series of paintings by this Amsterdam Street artist.

One of the paintings, named  “Golden Oldie”, is inspired on his youth, a past where little brats were still running around in the streets and where people were dealing with guilders…

“Veiled, but not unseen”, is a painting of Queen Beatrix, where she is veiled, in another  country with a different culture and different norms and values. A part of the Dutch society showed their hypocritical mentality and criticized her for adapting to that culture!
